Finding safety via the mind-body connection.
Your thoughts and emotions are key factors in your experience of chronic pain. This is not to say, in any way, that your pain experience isn’t real, but you must understand the mind-body connection in order to recover. AS YOU BEGIN TO FEEL SAFE, YOUR MIND AND BODY WILL LESSEN THE HOLD ON CHRONIC PAIN. This will be the key to freeing yourself from the protective mechanism by which the brain and nervous system HAVE CREATED chronic pain.
These protective mechanisms can cause a host of conditions, syndromes, symptoms, and issues associated with inflammation, which results in chronic pain. Once you discover how to invite feelings to rise to the surface, the body settles into a balanced state (ventral-vagal) that eliminates symptoms triggered in a fight-or-flight (sympathetic nervous system) mode. Calming the nervous system and helping you to feel safe will be your way out of chronic pain. Your treatment at The Pointe Malibu will lead you in the direction of finding this balanced state and feelings of safety which will enable you to create a better life for you and those that are important to you.
MENDA is a protocol you will follow for chronic pain recovery. Clients follow a structured curriculum via app and workbook that includes therapist facilitated education, mindfulness, and movement to reduce nervous system sensitivities.
